Flowersophy: Gorgeous Accessories

Founder of Flowersophy, Okay Altinisik, creates truly unique designs and soon enough every fashionista will be raving about his collection.  Okay was influenced by his parents who work in the European textile industry and he and his sister joined his father’s studio when they were just 10, assisting in all forms of sewing and cutting.  His first label, fleurs du mal republic, was launched while he studied fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.  By 2007 Okay was already winning coveted awards including the Prize for Young Contemporary Artists from the Cultural Ministry of Tyrol at the 4th International Triennial of Istanbul.

Originally “Flowersophy” was meant to label a chapbook, planned with Heiko Kremer, who Okay had studied philosophy with.  This was renamed “Poetical Jihad” when Heiko visited Okay in Anatolia.  Okay then began using the name Flowersophy for all his accessories believing that flowers are superior to philosophy and philosophers.
After graduating and travelling the world Okay decided to stay in Anatolian Konya, Turkey for a while.  Inspired by the local Gypsies, Nomads and Sufis he began a new collection in March 2009.  Okay began exploring, discovering and combining the “orthodox” rural aesthetic with it’s Antipodes, the ragged 60s flower power, all within one technique: braiding.  Okay believes that his designs are unique because he combines Turkish fabrics and raw materials with a traditional European school of design.
